How does Bare It camouflage stretch mark work?
The Brazilian Stretch Mark and Scar Camouflage is a non-invasive tattooing method. This specialised treatment uses skin-toned ink pigments to disguise and conceal the appearance of stretch marks and/or scars by filling the areas that are missing colour.
It is a permanent cosmetic service popular in Brazil, offering a specially formulated ink that doesn't change colour in the sun. While it requires little or sometimes no downtime, it can take 45-60 days to see the final result. The most popular areas to be camouflaged are those prone to stretch marks and include the breasts, shoulders, hips, stomach, buttocks, thighs and knees.
Am I going to be a good candidate for the procedure?
The stretch marks of our clients are required to meet certain criteria for us to recommend camouflage tattooing. We think of the skin as a 'canvas', ensuring it's an adequate surface to be treated upon. For the most natural and 'camouflaged' results, there are several recommendations we make.
Number 1: The stretch marks must be white

Stretch Marks that are yet to turn white often indicate that they're still healing. We usually recommend that stretch marks are at least two years old before tattooing. Stretch marks that are pink, red, grey or skin coloured are NOT a candidate.
Number 2: The stretch marks must be flat and smooth in texture
If your stretch marks are both white and flat in texture, you are the PERFECT candidate for the camouflage procedure.

Can I get tattooed if I'm tanned?
We recommend all clients to wait until your tan has faded before booking in your procedure with us. This ensures that the stretch marks are blended to your skin tone and will look the most natural with or without a tan.
What will it look like if I'm tanned after the tattoo?
Your camouflaged stretch marks will not change colour. This means that even though your underlying skin colour may darken during a tan, the stretch marks are matched to your natural paler skin tone.
However, your stretch marks will still look camouflaged as there is less contrast between the 'white' of the stretch mark colour against the underlying skin colour.
How long is the recovery after the tattoo? And how fast can I see the results?
There is little to no down time after the session. Usually clients are able to resume going back to work or even fly home after the procedure. Minimal swelling and tenderness may be experienced up to 5 days post session. The redness will slowly dissipate over the next few weeks as it goes through different stages and shades of healing (from dark to light).
Straight after your session, you will receive post-care instructions on how to ice the area for the first few days and how to take care of the area for the best result.
Usually it will take 4-6 weeks for it to fully heal, however factors such as age, hormone levels, diet, general health, sun exposure may impact the duration and so it's difficult to pinpoint and exact time! If you are prone to hyper-pigmentation, it will most likely also take longer.
How long will the results from the tattoo last?
Like with all penetrative tattoo procedures, your tattoo may change on the skin over time. Cases from the tattoo industry has estimated that the optimal results may last 5 years (or more) depending on the adherence to post-care instructions.
You may or may not need a touch up session 6-7 years after your initial session to keep the full camouflaging effect.
